The benefits of a waterproof floor

No matter where they live, everyone needs waterproof flooring because we drop and spill, create steam and moisture in our own homes, and have appliances that can flood and pipes that leak. You will have peace of mind knowing that none of this will permanently damage floors, even if you're away from home for any length of time. Just wipe it dry when you can, and all will be fine.

What is waterproof vs. water-resistant flooring?

Many use these terms interchangeably, which is not correct. A waterproof product is entirely impervious to liquid and constructed of completely waterproof materials without coatings or other special features. It's impenetrable from bottom to top, meaning that it can either be submerged (such as in an appliance flood) or spilled on. Water-resistant means that water is repelled but must be wiped immediately, or it will eventually break through and soak the core.

Sometimes referred to as waterproof vinyl flooring

This flooring is a newer, more advanced version of luxury vinyl (LVF), made to be thicker, more durable, and used with the WPC (wood plastic composite) or SPC (stone plastic composite) cores, all of which are entirely waterproof materials. WPC and SPC cores provide the highest level of moisture protection and won't peel or ripple ever, no matter how much liquid is on the floor or for how long it's there.
It has the same style as LVF, and images are taken digitally, showing vibrancy, clarity, knots, raised grains, swirls, and veining variations. Micro beveling and embossing add depth, dimension, and textured appearances such as wire-brushed, hand scraped, weathered, and distressed. Cut into planks to mimic hardwood boards; it is also frequently used to mimic stones such as marble, granite, travertine, slate, or limestone, etc.

As with any vinyl, this is easy to care for with just a daily sweeping and periodic mopping with a manufacturer-approved cleaner. Avoid wax, shine-promoting products, as they can have the opposite effect and dull the floor. Installation is also easy, especially when it's a floating floor; the pieces click together, mat, then hover over a clean, dry, and level subfloor without nails or glue.
